皮肤是覆盖在人或动物身体表面的多层薄组织。它是一种各向异性、非线性、粘弹性材料。它主要由胶原纤维和弹性蛋白纤维组成的网状结构，允许高水平的变形。研究皮肤的力学性质，了解皮肤在体内的结构功能、病理对皮肤力学及相关临床问题的影响、新型组织工程支架的研制、化妆品及抗衰老产品的功效试验、皮肤生理学研究。

Skin is a thin multilayered tissue covering the surface of the body of a person or animal. It is an anisotropic, non-linear and viscoelastic material. It is mainly composed of a network of collagen and elastin fibers which allows for high levels of deformation. The mechanical properties of skin are studied to learn about: its structural function in the body, the effects of pathologies on skin mechanics and related clinical issues, development of new tissue-engineered scaffolds, efficacy tests of cosmetics and anti-aging products, research in skin physiology.
