Best solvents: Chlorinated hydrocarbons and CS2 （carbon disulfide）
Freely soluble in Chloroform and benzene. Very slightly soluble in ether （1g/3L with letting it boiling） and hexane （1g/14L at 0 degrees C）.Practically insoluble in ethanol and methanol. Insoluble in water. and benzene. Heat sensitive. Protect from light
An open chain unsaturated carotenoid that imparts red colour to tomatoes, guava, rose hip, watermelon and pink grapefruit. Studies show that lycopene intake is significantly associated with lower risk of lung, colon and stomach carcinogenesis.
